Helping orphans and vulnerable children in Banket

The Mumvuri Project cares for orphaned and vulnerable children living with their extended families, paying their school fees, meeting their needs, and walking with them home by home.

What the Mumvuri Project is about

Caring for Banket’s children since 1995

The Mumvuri Project is a registered Christian trust in Banket, Zimbabwe that has cared for orphaned and vulnerable children since 1995. We are not an orphanage: our children live with their extended families, and we lighten that burden by paying school fees, supplying food parcels, and supporting the family as a whole.

Back in 1995, the toll of the AIDS pandemic was showing in a rapidly growing number of orphans in our community. Since the beginning we have identified these children, visited their homes, and talked with their grandparents, aunts, uncles and older siblings about the problems they face every day.

Our story

Rebuilding lives, home by home

The Project was formed by a group of local Christian women in Banket who were concerned at the growing number of orphans in the community. Our vision, drawn from Nehemiah rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem, is restoration in the life of the orphaned child, the family and the community, home by home.

Today the Project has grown into a community centre, with a church meeting every Sunday, an early childhood development school, and a place for the community to gather.
